Meshay Long

Assistant Director of SOAR

Meshay Long (she/her) was born and raised in Cherokee, NC. Her passion for supporting underrepresented students to and through college started in college. During this time, Meshay implemented a variety of programs to promote college exposure to both middle and high school students. Following graduation, she moved to Michigan for graduate school. Meshay worked in a First Year Experience office overseeing workshops to help students successfully transition to the university and community; she also worked directly with a school to launch their 5-year DEI strategic plan, primarily managing evaluation and assessment. Prior to her arrival at Virginia Tech, Meshay worked in New York City at a college + career access and success nonprofit where she created weekly classes for 11th and 12th grade students around college guidance, professional skills, identity, and wellness. Meshay holds a B.A. in Psychology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a M.A. in Higher Education Administration with a concentration in Diversity and Social Justice from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Meshay is a sister of Alpha Pi Omega Sorority, Inc. and sits on the leadership team for the Carolina American Indian Network through UNC's Alumni Association. Outside of work, Meshay enjoys spending time with family and friends, naps, doing puzzles and playing games, making art, traveling, and being outside in nature.
