Testimonials
I had an amazing time at FWCA. I experienced a camaraderie that I have never encountered in academia. I made connections with other Emory faculty as well as others in the field. I left the conference with tools for success – strategies for promotion, leadership skills, and social capital. I was left energized and motivated to return and excel in my work. In particular, I was faced with challenges around leading my research team. At the conference I attended a leadership seminar that tackled the issues I was facing with effective strategies. Some of these issues were race-specific, and thus, I strongly believe, based on my prior experience, would not have received such important relevant strategies in non-race/ethnic specific environments. I am beyond thankful for the experience, and I am excited to return next year.

As far as the conference is concerned, that was the most spiritually and emotionally rewarding conference that I have ever attended! Out of the many, many conferences that I have attended throughout my career, I have never experienced such a supportive, empowering, fulfilling, and reaffirming community of powerful, brilliant, resilient ladies. I will make this my annual conference as long as it is offered! I have never been so recharged and refreshed and the beautiful bonds that I made will have an everlasting impact on my life. I am truly grateful for the support of the Provost Office, and everyone involved who made this possible. I have not stopped talking about it and sharing my experience with everyone! I have also spread the word to many women of color that I know and encouraged them to attend the conference next year. With all assaults against women of color in academia, it was so amazing to know that there are many of us who are happy to provide a loving and supporting community that we do not otherwise or often get at our institutions.

I am so happy that I had the privilege and opportunity to attend the Faculty Women of Color in Academy conference. It was my first time attending and I enjoyed every minute of it. The speakers were prolific, and the workshops were really empowering! The best part for me was the fellowship with so many women of color in academia. I hope that I can be in attendance for many years to come to continue to connect and learn from and with my peers.
