Alumni Distinguished Professor

Lucinda Roy, Alumni Distinguished Professor in Creative Writing at Virginia Tech, is an award-winning novelist, poet, and memoirist, recognized for her keynotes on creative writing, diversity, and campus safety. The author of seven books, she is currently writing a speculative slave narrative novel trilogy entitled The Dreambird Chronicles. The Freedom Race, the first novel in the series, was published in 2021 by Tor/Macmillan. Flying the Coop, the second book, will be published in July of this year. A winner of a state-wide Outstanding Faculty Award, she has an honorary doctorate from the University of Richmond. In 2017, she was the recipient of the Zenobia Lawrence Hikes Woman of Color in the Academy Award.
